What is New in the Retail and Hospitality Markets?

Elo's Touch Solutions for the Retail and Hospitality Markets at CeBIT:
Elo TouchSystems, the global leader in touch technology and a business of Tyco Electronics Corporation, will unveil new solutions for the retail and hospitality markets at CeBIT, including:

  • NEW: The latest touch technology, APR (Acoustic Pulse Recognition), is an Elo exclusive and represents a major breakthrough. APR is a completely new and unique touch technology that combines the benefits of other major touch technologies. Finally, POS applications can have an all glass touch technology with the highest optics and no wear that also works with a credit card, pen, and fingernail. In addition, it is resistant to water and other contaminants on the screen, and provides palm rejection during signature capture.

  • NEW: The 1522L touchmonitor, a desktop monitor designed especially for those applications where quality, performance, design and price are at a premium, whilst solution flexibility and image are extremely high.

  • Touchmonitors from the 1000 Series, which provide Elo quality at a low price point. These touchmonitors are designed to provide a single-source selection of entry-level touchmonitors, aimed at the fast-changing consumer retail POS and hospitality POS markets.

  • Touchmonitors and Touchcomputers from the 3000 series, with “designed for touch” features which include, amongst others, a stable base, a screen which may be tilted up, adjustment buttons on the side with lockout function for public use, hidden cables, speakers located in the head, and holes in the base to affix the monitor to a table.

  • Additional technologies and remote OSD option on the kiosk touchmonitors
An additional standard feature on the Elo family of rear-mount touchmonitors is the remote OSD connector. The remote OSD provides an easier reach to adjust the brightness, contrast, menu language, etc. Furthermore, Elo is introducing additional technologies on the kiosk monitor product range:

    • SecureTouch: This is Elo's anti-vandal surface wave technology which comes with a chemically strengthened glass only 3 mm thick. As a result, there is less parallax with an Elo anti-vandal solution than with solutions that have thicker glass.

    • Enhanced AccuTouch five-wire resistive technology: Activated with fingernail, glove, credit card, or any stylus. Keeps working with splashes, food, and grease on the touchscreen. Stands up to aggressive cleaning. Elo’s industry leading AccuTouch 5-wire resistive technology has been improved: with a new manufacturing process to attach the coversheet, Elo can now provide a higher temperature and humidity performance range for the resistive product line, all while maintaining their renowned tight coversheet fit, and without lowering any other performance specification. The operating temperature specification has been extended to 70°C and operating humidity to 90% RH at max 50°C.

    • CarrollTouch: Elo's infrared touch technology provides a high optical sensor technology for applications which require extremely high imaging performance.

    • Surface Capacitive: Elo's surface capacitive touch technology provides a viable alternative to the capacitive options currently available – and from a world-class manufacturer. Elo surface capacitive touchscreens incorporate an important rear ground layer for operation in electrically noisy environments. The new 5020 controller enables Elo to provide improved performance and enhanced accuracy, as well as providing support for both industry standard protocols. Capacitive technology offers fast and sensitive touch response with excellent dragging performance.

  • Large sizes of monitors. Bigger is better. Today, networked digital signage is attracting customers’ attention everywhere. Large chains appreciate the benefits of multicasting information across locations instantly, as well as the possibilities of targeted narrowcasting of their message at scheduled times. Elo can produce both tabletop and rear-mount touchmonitors up to 42" for specialized applications.

Why Touch?
Elo TouchSystems has proven touch solutions for the retail and hospitality markets. In an industry where employee turnover is high, simplifying the POS operation is often a major issue. It’s a proven fact that touchscreens speed up point-of-sale transactions and make self-service systems viable. It is also a fact that Elo TouchSystems has the touch technology of choice for many kiosk manufacturers all over the world. Elo routinely works closely with software providers, systems integrators, kiosk producers, and POS manufacturers to seamlessly integrate their products into a total retail and hospitality solution.

The Benefits of Elo's Touch Solutions for the Retail and Hospitality Markets
Touch POS systems speed up and simplify cash register functions and reduce operator errors. Touch POS can dramatically reduce training time, empowering sales and service staff to provide higher-quality customer interactions. Furthermore, self-service kiosks allow customers to complete self-service transactions, expand inventory reach by providing in-store access to online products, and help build customer loyalty. Brand marketers use kiosks to educate potential customers, getting a consistent message across without employing salespeople. The touch interface is universal and can be used by anyone regardless of language, education, or socioeconomic or cultural background.

Touch Applications in the Retail and Hospitality Markets
Elo’s touch solutions for the retail and hospitality market can be used for numerous applications, including point-of-sale (POS) systems, self-service, point-of-information stations (POI), kiosks, point-of-purchase (POP) systems, interactive digital signage, product traceability, digital photo stations, interactive store windows, and more.
